Getting chatty about Google Glass
It was a busy week for our CEO Rish, who first dropped in at SXSW in Austin, then visited three major US news networks - CNBC, Fox and the Wall Street Journal – for live video interviews about the future of wearable technology.
After his stunning demonstrating at Mobile World Congress of how Blippar can be used on Google Glass, everyone was naturally curious about what Rish was thinking, and how he saw the two companies developing.
Speaking to WSJ, he explained that ‘wearables reduce the friction between intention and action’, eliminating the need to type or click in order to pull content, requiring the user simply look. An application within the health sector would be the next big thing to expect, he said.
Rish told CNBC that Blippar’s vision is to create a brand new consumer behaviour – blipping – a default action wherever any form of lens appears. And would he sell up tomorrow if Google offered him $1bn? ‘Absolutely not.’
On Fox, Rish assured viewers that Blippar’s application is always pull-based, and that using the platform on Glass wouldn’t result in an onslaught of advertising while strolling down the street. ‘The wearer opts-in to select content by telling Glass to blipp’, he said. ‘It’s a new behaviour that is going to change the world: no more typing, just looking.’
