Shark Week has landed… and this year it’s blippable!
It’s Shark Week! And this year it’s bigger, better and – most importantly - more blippable than ever before.
Founded in 1988 by the Discovery Channel in effort to raise awareness and respect for sharks, the annual, week-long television series dedicated to the most feared beasts of the sea is now the longest-running cable TV event in history.
Taglined King of the Sea, the season features fictitious films, real-life documentaries, interviews with the experts, celebrity features… and plenty of Jaws tributes.
This year Parragon books, publishers of Discovery Kids books, approached Blippar with an idea.
They wanted to make younger Shark Week fans aware of their children’s eBooks in a fun and engaging way, and figured Blippar were the ones to do it. (They were right.)
So we made two Shark Week markers (see pictures directly above and below) blippable, one of which features in a Metro print ad on 12 August (below), the other on the Discovery Kids website and social media channels for Discovery, Parragon and Blippar.
The blipp launches a number of awesome, colourful experiences for younger fans, including an initial animated shark; a free Shark Week eBook download; two dramatic Discovery Channel documentary videos about sharks; the chance to take a fun selfie with a shark or Snuffy the Seal (see Olive the #blippuppy posing in these below), and the opportunity to explore and download the Discovery Kids Sharks mobile app.
Designing an animated shark that wouldn’t frighten the blipp’s under-10 demographic was a great challenge, and Parragon were delighted to see their vision come to life in the final blipp.
Team Blippar were just thrilled to be invited on board to create such a fun, interactive experience for this illustrious, 26-year-old celebration of sharks.
Happy Shark Week!
