Blippar named one of Top 50 Mobile Innovators by Mobile Entertainment
Blippar has won a place on Mobile Entertainment’s 2014 list of Britain’s brightest entrepreneurial smartphone hotshots, being named one of the year’s Top 50 Mobile Innovators by the phone-savvy publication. Hurrah!
Now in its fourth year, the techy talent hunt aims to source the most inventive British companies offering services within the mobile apps and games industry.
The majority of brands appearing on this year’s list are fresh-faced new kids on the mobile block; Blippar’s three years of experience makes us positively veterans in the field.
Mobile Entertainment editor Zen Terrelonge said: ‘You'll spot some familiar faces in the mix, but the majority of winners this year are newcomers showing tremendous promise, while some of the more established companies to secure a spot have done so through a demonstrable hunger to continue building exciting new campaigns.’
The winners were selected by a panel comprising the ME team, and special guest judges Steven Leith of event partner and business advisor Grant Thornton; Alex Haffner, senior associate at event partner and law firm Dentons; Ross Wellby, founder of IMR Executive; Alex Kozloff, head of mobile at IAB UK, and ‘30 Under 30’ winners Liam Houghton, Sam Amrani, James Robinson, William Rowley, May Mwanje, Lily Greenwell-Farrell and Rytis Vitkauskas.
Terrelonge, continued: ‘I can safely say that this year has genuinely brought forward the finest quality of entries to date. It really was incredibly tough to whittle the nominees down to a final 50, but I'm pleased with the final result and hope you will be too.
‘The companies we've chosen have shown passion, dedication and truly exciting innovations that will undoubtedly go on to evolve alongside the constantly changing market.’
Blippar’s co-founder and CMO Jess Butcher said in response to our company's appearance on the list: 'We're thrilled to make the ME top mobile innovators list for a second year! We're in illustrious company - and the whole list demonstrates just how much exciting innovation is coming out of the UK right now in the mobile field... Exciting times ahead!'
Describing our visual browsing app platform, Mobile Entertainment explained: ‘Blippar is the augmented reality app platform that brings physical objects to life on mobile screens. Since launching in 2011, Blippar has reached 150 employees and 50 million users, having recently acquired Layar.
‘More than 1,000 brands are among partners, with Coke, Pepsi, Mondelez, Universal, L’Oreal, Jaguar, Conde Nast and News International all using the platform, which has helped drive blipps to be found on over 1.5bn products.
‘To keep things fresh, the company is also looking at content that can be consumed when the trigger image is gone, location-based experiences, multi markers and more.’
Other terrific mobile innovators appearing on the Top 50 list include 23Snaps, a printable photo-sharing app for close friends and family only; Acision, whose app fuseMe unites chat, voice, video calls, split screen, file sharing and browsing in one place; TV-focused social network Beamly; interactive video content app Brainient; indie mobile games publisher Chillingo; London map and transport guru Citymapper; Just Yoyo, the London-based mobile payment and loyalty app; digital parking service Just Park; taxi comparison service Kabbee; anti-queuing apps Orderella and Masabi; Payfriendz, the cash transfer app for (you guessed it) friends, and mobile events service YPlan.
Congratulations to all the other 49 companies who appear on the list. Great job!
