Big tech ideas shaping art and culture: Blippar at REMIX London

If you’re curious about how technology and entrepreneurialism will shape culture over the next five, 10 and 15 years, you need to ensure your name is on the guest list at a REMIX global summit.

‘By bringing together leaders from across industries [the summits] facilitate the exchange of ideas and insights, fostering dialogue and collaboration,’ explain REMIX founders, whose collaborative events take place four times a year, in London, New York, Dubai and Sydney - with new locations being added all the time.

This year Blippar attended the London event as a partner, and several members of our team spent a fabulous couple of days at Google Town Hall immersed in art and culture, listening to fascinating talks from thought-leaders driving disruptive innovation and entrepreneurship across this field.

We learned how creative people are shaping cities and bringing warehoused art out of storage for free, public consumption, and how 'making', coding and creative technologies are being woven into education from an increasingly early age. Some of our highlights included watching the Natural History Museum bring their dinosaur skeletons back to roaring life; learning more about the phenomenal success of Secret Cinema; new music app Mogees; discovering that famous statues can now talk (and will call you to tell you their story), and being told about exciting digital strategies the British Museum and Royal Museums Greenwich are implementing to develop new markets.

Most cultural institutions attending REMIX run educational programs, so Blippar’s education team found much of interest at the summit. One particularly interesting company we heard from was Technology Will Save Us, enabling young learners to build their own tech products and then adapt the software.

On our part, we were delighted to demonstrate how Blippar’s technology offers opportunities within the art world, specifically when it comes to extending artworks work beyond the canvas. From bringing historical artworks to rich interactive life, through to enabling young learners to engage more fully with contemporary artists’ creations via mobile, our app can truly help drive engagement, education and sales when it comes to art and culture.
