Turn art ON using Blippbuilder: Bring artworks to life with engaging digital experiences using Blippar's DIY platform
At Blippar, when we look at art, we don’t just see a pretty picture. We see all the ways in which the pretty picture could be turned into something richer: something more informative, something more beautiful, something more exciting, something more engaging, something more… interactive.
And all you need to do to make art all of these things is augment it with digital content and then look at it through our visual browser. Simple.
We’ve collaborated with plenty of artists, cultural institutions, cultural initiatives and charity projects to make their artworks interactive using Blippar’s powerful image-recognition and augmented reality technologies.
By making their paintings, murals, comic books, posters or photographs blippable, they can offer viewers exclusive, entertaining, educational, exciting and dynamic digital content, such as videos, additional image galleries, art maps, click-to-buy links, and astonishing digital animations which are secondary artworks in their own right.
These trackable interactions boost spectator engagement, ensuring people will remember the viewing experience, share it with friends, and return for more when content is refreshed.
What’s more, by using our DIY platform Blippbuilder, artists and institutions are able to turn their works interactive without any help from us.
The simple, web-based platform enables content-owners to quickly transform all of their artworks into beautiful and engaging interactive AR experiences, which viewers simply unlock using our free app downloaded onto their mobile phone or tablet. Simple.
As our CEO and co-founder Ambarish Mitra says: ‘Art in galleries and museums around the world today faces the challenge of engaging and attracting younger audiences. This is down to a range of factors, but the major one is that museums are today unable to be as "cool" as modern gaming products or movies from the entertainment industry, all of whom are in the business of telling a good story.
'Augmented reality allows artists and museums to tell stories like never before; it gives users total control over accessing the work at their own pace, and enables them to indulge many senses.
'Storytelling is at the heart of an engaging experience, and this understanding has been at the core of many a successful museum over the past decade. Hopefully, as projects such as ours come closer to final development, we will see a continued digital renaissance in the European sector for the arts, making our cultural past interesting, engaging and relevant for the visitor of the future.'
Here are some examples of different art campaigns we have worked on at Blippar, in which works have been turned interactive using Blippbuilder. To blipp the images, just download and open the free Blippar app on your phone or tablet and fill the screen with the image of each piece of art below. Enjoy!
