Prince William the samurai! Duke of Cambridge blipps himself to life in Tokyo
The Duke of Cambridge blipped an image of a samurai - which turned into an avatar samurai with his face on it - on Japanese TV this weekend, to the delight of a roomful of Tokyo schoolchildren.
Prince William visited Japan (without his pregnant wife the Duchess of Cambridge) to celebrate British creativity and technology as part of the UKTI’s Innovation is GREAT event, and met with Blippar in Tokyo’s Daikanyama Tsutaya Books (T-Site), a beautiful bookshop designed by British architect Mark Dytham.
In honour of the occasion, Blippar created a special, customisable Prince William blipp, and printed out blippable markers for the Duke and all the children to colour in.
The marker (found at the bottom of this blog) is an outline of a samurai wearing a Japanese outfit, and when blipped using the Blippar app it springs to life on mobile screens and reveals itself, in this instance, as Prince William waving the Union Jack and the Japanese flag.
Watch a video of the Duke blipping his avatar on the official @KensingtonRoyal Instagram page here.
Speaking about the event, Blippar co-founder and CEO Ambarish Mitra said: ‘Prince William is a great ambassador for British tech and a great believer of supporting young businesses by immersing himself in use of the products. We are grateful for his continued support.'
Innovation is GREAT is a year-long campaign by the British Government to promote further partnership between the UK and Japan by showcasing and stimulating bilateral business, research and education collaborations that tackle global problems and improve lives through innovation.
