City of London Festival and Blippar rock Square Mile with Street Guitars

As the sun blazes down and summer gets into full swing, we’re delighted to continue forging relations with some of the world’s most awesome cultural organisations.

Our latest duet is with the City of London Festival, who specialise in bringing a wide range of performance art, music, tours, talks and wonderful installations to the City centre.

For their latest project, Rock the Boat Street Guitar, they‘ve turned the City into a stage by stationing 12 acoustic guitars inside upcycled old sailing dinghies in various spots around the Square Mile for everyone - be they tourists or workers - to play.

You’ll find some of these beautiful Pilgrim instruments - supplied by John Hornby Skewes - near Bank, Leadenhall Market, St Paul’s Cathedral and Fenchurch Street Station.

Keep your eyes peeled for the rest. (Alternatively, take a sneaky peek at the map below, or visit the interactive one on the City of London Festival website.)

And just to make this fabulous community initiative a touch more interactive, we’ve sprinkled it with Blippar’s magic dust.

Stuck on every boat you’ll find a poster featuring the Rock the Boat logo and instructions on how to blipp the logo using our free app in order to access a range of fun digital content on your mobile phone.

Our favourite feature is the rock star photobooth, which lets you give yourself funky cartoon hairstyles (and facial hair) and take a photo in your new guise.

Don’t forget to share your street party fun on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the #rocktheboat hashtag.

So if you’re feeling musical, grab your sunnies, step into the sunshine and join the rest of London on sunny park benches to eat your lunch.

And if you stumble across a street guitar during your lunch hour get involved with the Festival vibes, whether by playing, singing, dancing or blipping.

Last year, over 510,000 people visited the Street Guitars, which have been designed and made by [re]design. Let’s see if we can get even more of you down this year!
