The Blippar Intern Series: Education Team
Do you ever wonder what it would be like to work at Blippar? We welcome interns to our various departments every month and aim to educate interns on working life in our unique environment. Kaschan Rebuar reports on her experience at our London Bridge office in the first of our internship series of blogs.
The train ride to your first placement as an intern is nerve racking with so many questions going through your mind:
Do I look formal enough? Have I researched the company enough? Did I get lost again?
But from the moment I stepped into the Blippar office, the kind and relaxed atmosphere (as well as the pop of orange seen throughout the building) allowed a nervous 17 year old student like myself to feel comfortable, and ready to explore the different aspects that go into education technology. Of course, the view of the river helped just a bit.
My first day consisted of researching and constructing a brief document on how technology goes hand in hand with education, in the form of the diverse and rapidly growing “edtech” industry. At the same time, I was able to get an exclusive insight into the new and growing Education department at Blippar, who are working towards enhancing learning spaces and materials digitally to create a uniquely collaborative experience for both students and educators of all ages. This included researching different art and culture organisations that may benefit collaborating with Blippar to advance their services.
For the rest of the week, I had the chance to play around with Blippbuilder, the mastermind self-design tool behind the creation some of the blipps that go live. You may be thinking, as I did, that a blipp must take hours of hard work and complex coding to make, with it being such a unique feature. Actually, I found it extremely simple to use as the tool was easy to use and super fun to play around with. I can definitely see schools benefiting from using the feature to engage students during their learning process.

Working with Blippbuilder allowed me to contribute relevant ideas to the Education department regarding methods in which the Blippar app could be incorporated into schools effectively, based on my own personal experience during my Maths, Further Maths, History and Media lessons. One of them being the ability to blipp an image of a source given in a textbook, and be referred to a range of additional information and resources, required to write up essays.
Overall, this week has been an incredible experience, and would like to thank both the Access Team for setting me up with this internship, Blippar for welcoming me to their office and Chantal Pinkham for mentoring me throughout the week.
