Artificial intelligence systems - with a little human help - are now able to create made-up scenery from real photographs fed to them. Researcher Qifeng Chen of Stanford and Intel fed his AI system 5,000 photos from german streets which it used to generate a fictional landscape. The scenes are a bit unfocused, and the technology still needs to be told where to place elements such as trees and cars, but it could soon be used to improve realism in the video game industry - where a slight blur doesn’t matter.
