Guess Who's blippable? Radio Times interactive Doctor Who special
The eagerly awaited first episode of the new series of Doctor Who airs on BBC1 this Saturday, with the inimitable Peter Capaldi - best known for his portrayal of acid-tongued spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It -stepping out of the Tardis for the first time as Timelord #12. (A rather different sort of doctor.)
To celebrate his arrival, TV bible Radio Times has created a special issue with the man himself on the cover. And, to make it even more special and collectible, they also partnered with Blippar to make the issue interactive. Read all about it in The Drum.
The innovative folk at Radio Times are no strangers to Blippar and how it can be used to digitally empower print publications; to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who last year the team created an awesome, blippable issue, in which ex-Doctor Matt Smith popped up off the cover with an exclusive video message to readers.
So what could we do for this one's blipp? Well, as a new doctor is hitting the screen, we knew it had to be particularly special. How about a 3D Tardis?
Looking at Doctor Who's most iconic symbol, the big blue telephone box was a clear favorite, destined to be recognised by and impress readers.
Anyone who blipps the cover of this week’s Radio Times with their mobile phone or tablet will be treated to an animated version of everyone’s favorite time machine flying around in a misty space-time continuum, with the iconic Doctor Who music wailing in the background.
As the Tardis fades, readers can tap through to a number of interactive digital experiences; you can watch the exciting trailer for this week’s upcoming episode, place every Doctor Who in history on the front cover of the magazine and take a photo, or download Radio Times’ brand new iPad edition.
But wait! It’s not only the cover that’s interactive in this phenomenal collectors issue: turn to page 10 and you will discover a number of exciting blipps inside that give you sneaky behind-the-scenes images from the Doctor Who set, trailers, and bios for a number of returning characters.
This Radio Times interactive special is out now, so make sure you pick up a copy. And hey, if you are reading this in the future, just jump in the Tardis and travel back in time to get one…
