Bank Notes and Evening Standard Come to Life to Honor the Queen's Historic Achievement

This week we brought the Evening Standard’s “royal” editorial content and all Bank of England banknotes to life to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II becoming the nation’s longest serving monarch!

This week people have been and will be harnessing the powerful technologies of our app in blipping the Evening Standard and any Bank of England note to watch videos, view image galleries and take a journey through the Queen’s record 63 years on the throne.

The stunning four-day editorial coverage by the Evening Standard, has been brought to life offering readers bonus content to satisfy all their royal coverage needs!

In addition to the four day editorial coverage, anyone with access to a banknote, or even an online image of one, can view specially created content, including the Queen’s most memorable moments, a guide to Her Majesty’s illustrious ancestry and the opinions of Britons on their much loved monarch. As the world’s leading visual discovery app, coupled with the power of augmented reality technologies to connect users to an unseen world, Blippar hopes to engage people with the nation’s celebrations by offering something more unusual.

As well as being able to view exclusive content of the Queen, users will get to take a "selfie" with Her Majesty, take a quiz to find out how royal they are and, most importantly, donate to six charities the Queen is patron to. There are a plethora of options open, which will give various demographics the chance to participate in the celebrations in a way they had not experienced before.

This particular innovation resonates heavily with Blippar’s story as the concept for the app was born with a banknote in a pub and a joke about having the queen come to life. This ‘eureka moment’, between friends Ambarish Mitra and Omar Tayeb, prompted them to develop a method where a photo scan on a mobile phone would turn the Queen on a bank note into an animated photo of their friends. A few years later and this party trick is now an international tool, allowing communities to see the history behind the celebrations.

Omaid Hiwaizi, President of Global Marketing, Blippar said: "We're making celebrating the Queen's record-breaking 63 years easy and fun for everyone through just 'blipping' a banknote. We hope people will be inspired by all the social content, videos and information about the Queen that will be at their fingertips, and we aim to show that, with Blippar, there are no limits to how people can connect to each other and the world around them."
