Bank of England Reveals New 5 Pound Note Design with Augmented Reality
In anticipation of the release of a new £5 banknote (or "fiver"), the Bank of England is using the Blippar app to give an exclusive augmented reality preview.
By blipping any existing Bank of England banknote, you can instantly see an interactive sneak preview of "The New Fiver" as it appears right in the palm of your hand! You can also take a selfie with The New Fiver, share it on social media and learn about the new security features built into the note.
The partnership is part of a wider campaign aimed at educating the public on the benefits of polymer notes before The New Fiver enters circulation in September. Polymer notes are cleaner, safer and stronger than paper, lasting 2.5 times longer and being harder to reproduce.
"The Bank has developed jointly with Blippar a high tech way for the public to explore our new high tech banknote," says Victoria Cleland, Chief Cashier at the Bank of England. "The New Fiver campaign is a leap forward in the Bank’s digital communications and the Blippar app helps us to reach out to more people in a new and engaging way ahead of launch in September."
"Our partnership with the Bank of England will celebrate The New Fiver and get the public talking about it's story and features," says Omaid Hiwaizi, Global Marketing President at Blippar. "Our ambition is to get the broadest audience engaged - through both education on security features and the inspiring stories on the design."
