Interactive photographs let you see New York through a new lens

As our Blippar Education community project gathers pace, we continue to see a truly remarkable array of colourful, creative, inspiring ideas. We’ve been so impressed with how you’ve chosen to use Blippbuilder, our DIY blipp-creation tool, to represent what community means to you. We asked you to showcase your diverse environments and cultures using our powerful image-recognition and augmented reality technologies, and explore how you relate to them.

This week we’re thrilled to share the work of inspiring artist Sameer Abdel-Khalek: photographer, director and general all-round creator of awesome beauty. Sameer’s photography exhibition experience NYC Twoer comprises abstract, double exposed images of New York public spaces.

His photos explore themes of environment, space, duality and perception. He captured the essence of various places in New York, then abstracted these impressions even further through Blippar, offering viewers who blipp the images using our free mobile app relevant and contextual information about each piece and the man behind their creation.

Sameer explains: ‘NYC Two-er’ (pronounced "tour") is a photo gallery exhibition that explores the concept of duality and our perception of public spaces. We experience the binary on a daily basis: light and dark, still and motion, outdoor and indoor. Typically, these attributes stay independent of their counterparts. However, by fusing two images that capture dichotomies into a single composite, we get a glimpse of reality reimagined.’

NYC Twoer is a tremendous example of how art can be enhanced digitally through the use of image-recognition and augmented reality technologies. By using Blippar to add new layers of meaning to his images, Sameer imbues each with a greater sense of place, of people, and of transition. He plans to exhibit this enlightening project again in New York City in the next few months, so do keep an eye out for updates on his Twitter page.
